Developmental Checklist: 8-10 months

Each child is unique and will progress at different rates based on their abilities.  Use the time constraints of this information as a guideline only.  If you feel that your child is deviating significantly from these skills, please consult your Pediatrician. If your child is already enrolled in therapy and you have questions, concerns or need further clarification, please contact your child’s therapist.

Gross Motor Skills

  • Pulls to stand at furniture
  • Lower self to floor from standing
  • Stands while holding on
  • Sits without support
  • Able to twist in sitting to pick up toys
  • Crawls on hands and knees forward
  • Cruises along furniture
  • Walks when booth hands are held

Fine Motor Skills

  • Pokes with pointed index finger
  • Attempts to scribble with a crayon
  • Bangs 2 objects together
  • Takes objects out of container
  • Places objects into large container
  • Picks up object about the size of a quarter

Visual/Perceptual

  • Looks at pictures for one minute when named
  • Finds a completely hidden toy

Language/Communication

  • Says “dada” and “mama”
  • Imitates sounds
  • Shouts for attention

Social/Emotional

  • Plays games
  • Prefers people they know
  • Imitates other children
  • Lets only mother meet needs
  • Shows an interest in other children’s play

Self Help

  • Finger feeds self small pieces of food
  • Holds own bottle
  • Drinks from a cup help for him/her
  • Bites and chews on toys
  • Attempts to hold a spoon
  • Bites and chews crackers
