Developmental Checklist: 6-7 months

Each child is unique and will progress at different rates based on their abilities.  Use the time constraints of this information as a guideline only.  If you feel that your child is deviating significantly from these skills, please consult your Pediatrician. If your child is already enrolled in therapy and you have questions, concerns or need further clarification, please contact your child’s therapist.

Gross Motor Skills

  • Rolls from back to side to stomach
  • Moves head freely while in supported sitting
  • Holds head up when leaning forward
  • Tries to scoot while on stomach
  • Bears some weight on legs in supported standing and bounces
  • Prop sits
  • Reaches for toys while on stomach
  • Moves from stomach onto hands and knees

Fine Motor Skills

  • Rakes or scoops up a raisin and holds it
  • Drops an object on purpose
  • Bangs toys on a table

Visual/Perceptual

  • Looks at distant objects
  • Looks to the floor when something falls
  • Plays peek a boo

Language/Communication

  • Reacts to music by cooing
  • Looks and vocalizes to own name
  • Babbles double consonants, “baba”
  • Vocalizes pleasure and displeasure

Social/Emotional

  • Has stranger anxiety
  • Lifts arms to signal they want picked up
  • Smiles at own image in the mirror

Self Help Skills

  • Pats and places both hands on bottle
  • Gums and swallows cracker
  • Closes lips on spoon to remove food
  • Naps 2-3 x/day
  • Drinks from a cup with help
  • Sleeps nights 10-12 hrs with some night awakenings
