Developmental Checklist: 4-5 months

Each child is unique and will progress at different rates based on their abilities.  Use the time constraints of this information as a guideline only.  If you feel that your child is deviating significantly from these skills, please consult your Pediatrician. If your child is already enrolled in therapy and you have questions, concerns or need further clarification, please contact your child’s therapist.

Gross Motor Skills

  • Raises head and chest about 90 degrees while on stomach
  • Props on extended arms while on stomach
  • Sits with slight support holding head in midline alignment
  • Bears some weight on legs in supported standing
  • Rolls from back to side

Fine Motor Skills

  • Plays with own hands at midline
  • Clasps hands together
  • Reaches and momentarily holds toy
  • Transfers toy from hand to hand

Visual/Perceptual

  • Eyes follow a moving object while in supported sitting

Language/Communication

  • Cries out at various pitches, lengths and volumes to indicate needs such as hunger or pain
  • Responds to sounds or speech by vocalizing & making sounds
  • Laughs when head is covered by a cloth

Social/Emotional

  • Vocalizes in response to adult talk and smiling
  • Socializes with strangers, anyone
  • Becomes aware of strange situations
  • Makes movements toward mirror

Self Help Skills

  • Brings objects to mouth for exploration
  • Visually recognizes bottle
