Developmental Checklist: 30-35 months

Each child is unique and will progress at different rates based on their abilities.  Use the time constraints of this information as a guideline only.  If you feel that your child is deviating significantly from these skills, please consult your Pediatrician. If your child is already enrolled in therapy and you have questions, concerns or need further clarification, please contact your child’s therapist.

Gross Motor Skills

  • Rides tricycle using pedals
  • Walks with heel-toe pattern
  • Stands on one foot and bounces
  • Goes up stairs alternating feet
  • Climbs jungle gyms and ladders
  • Hops on 1 foot

Fine Motor Skills

  • Uses one hand consistently rolls, squeezes and pulls clay
  • Copies a circle
  • Holds a pencil with thumb and fingers, like an adult
  • Cuts with scissors
  • Strings large beads
  • Copies a cross “+”
  • Builds tower with 9 blocks

Visual/Perceptual

  • Stacks 4 cups through visual comparison
  • Categorizes pictures of common objects

Language/Communication

  • Makes negative statements, “Can’t open it”
  • Participates in story telling
  • Repeats 5 word sentencesvocalizes for all needs
  • Recites a few nursery rhymes

Social/Emotional

  • Joins in play with other children
  • Compares self with others
  • Is possessive of loved ones
  • Plays best with one child
  • May be demanding
  • Does not like change
  • Takes pride in own accomplishments

Self Help Skills

  • Pours liquid from small container
  • Uses a fork with help
  • May not take naps
  • Helps with bathing self
  • Uses napkins
  • Dresses with parent watching, may need help with fasteners
