Developmental Checklist: 24-29 months

Each child is unique and will progress at different rates based on their abilities.  Use the time constraints of this information as a guideline only.  If you feel that your child is deviating significantly from these skills, please consult your Pediatrician. If your child is already enrolled in therapy and you have questions, concerns or need further clarification, please contact your child’s therapist.

Gross Motor Skills

  • Goes up and down slides
  • Stands on tip toes
  • Walks with legs closer together
  • Jump off bottom step with both feet
  • Walks down stairs alone
  • Catches large ball

Fine Motor Skills

  • Holds crayon with thumb and fingers
  • Imitates horizontal lines
  • Puts tiny objects in small container
  • Snips with scissors
  • Build tower with 8 blocks

Visual/Perceptual

  • Puts together puzzle of man separated into 2 pieces
  • Matches 2-3 primary colors
  • Selects and looks at picture books
  • Names pictured objects

Language/Communication

  • Constantly asking questions
  • Knows full name
  • Understands “no, not, can’t, don’t”
  • Shows frustration at not being understood

Social/Emotional

  • Tends to be physically aggressive
  • Has tantrums
  • Becomes aware of sex differences
  • Clings and whines
  • Displays shyness with strangers

Self Help Skills

  • Remains dry between regular visits to the bathroom
  • Toilets alone except for wiping
  • Understands common dangers: stairs, glass, strange animals
  • Likes and dislikes certain foods
  • Unbuttons large buttons
  • Dresses with assistance
